SETx Flood Coordination Study Activities: 2020-2021 Webinar

Lamar University’s Center for Port Management and the Southeast Texas Flood Coordination Study (SETxFCS) invite you to a special webinar describing the purpose, first-year results, and near-term plans of this important study.

  • WHEN: Thursday, February 11, 2021
  • WHERE: Microsoft Teams (email for an invite).
  • TIME: 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.

SETxFCS was launched in November 2019 to bring more awareness and collaboration among interested parties related to the frequent flooding events occurring in the region. Dr. Liv Haselbach, Chair, Civil and Industrial Engineering Dept, Lamar University, leads the Study. Joining Lamar on the team are representatives from UT, TxDOT, Department of Emergency Management, Corps of Engineers, US Geological Survey, local drainage districts, counties, and cities, and regional river authorities. The network has grown steadily and focused on bringing state-of-the-practice information, technology, and modelling to Southeast Texas.

This webinar will specifically address:

  • the dredge material study in Port Arthur,
  • the Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program (HSEEP) exercises held 5/20 and 11/20 that evaluated flood regional response,
  • the river gauge network hosted by the LNVA and the SRA, and,
  • two upcoming projects –
    • one on high frequency radar planned for near-surface current measurements in Sabine Lake, and the other on
    • the acquisition of a large number of low-cost flood sensors for deployment in the region.

Please join us to learn more about this important study, which will enhance our critically important region’s resilience to flooding events. The session will be as interactive as technically possible.
